who stole the apples?

I found two of my makeshift applesox in the grass this week -- and the apples were gone.  I have lost half my crop.  I am thinking whoever left these tracks on the kids' picnic table is the answer....
Could it be a racoon?  If it is, I am sure this garden predator won't have a chance of taking him out.

  1. My best guess is raccoon. They are pesky buggers! Sorry you lost some of your crop.

  2. I like your guess -- but it turns out that the problem was some curious kids. My middle kid confessed to the crime while we were on vacation. He was busy telling me how our apples weren't any good because they weren't red when I realized I didn't have a racoon problem. I asked him what happened to the apples and he said he and his sister threw them over the fence -- but he voiced confidance that we could grow some better ones soon. He doesn't understand the concept of seasonal fruit....
